Tonight's Sell Block
stocks - recommended to
sell are:
TELKOM Indonesia (TLK)
Turkcell (TKC)
Mobile Telesystems (MBT)
Vimpel-Communications (VIP)
Millicom International
Cellular (MICC)
The Bottom Line!:
I screwed up badly...
I was looking for the
growth in all the wrong
places... and not looking
for risks, like
competition and global
trends working against
these "old tech"
international wireless
stocks. Sell them.
But I hope you will give
me another chance...

Mad Mail
Dr Pepper
Snapple Group,
Inc. (DPS)
Q:
In your book,
Real Money,
you wrote how a
competitor can
come in and
dethrone an
industry giant
by selling a
similar product,
even if it does
so with a lower
margin than the
industry leader.
Looking at the
supermarket
aisles, from
Wal-Mart to
Vons, it seems
that DPS is
employing the
same strategy by
selling
carbonated soda
at lower prices
with lower
margins than
both its
competitors,
Pepsico (PEP)
and
Coca-Cola (KO).
Is DPS a buy?
JJC:
Wrong logic.
What I used in
the book
was a situation
where
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ),
which has much
lower multiples,
came into U.S.
Surgical's
market...
Any multiple
that was a
little bit
better than
JNJ's moved its
business up,
even though it
came in well
under U.S.
Surgical.
The same thing
happened with
the tampon
company,
Tampex...
Another
competitor came
in, and had a
higher price
point than any
of its other
materials, but
much lower than
Tampex.
So, no...
Those companies
are pure
plays... Don't
think like that.
It won't make
you money.
