On
Merck & Co. Inc. (MRK)
and
Schering-Plough Corp. (SGP*)
and the news regarding their drug,
Vytorin...
JJC: Okay... Now...
just so you know... full
disclosure... I just
issued an alert to people
saying, listen, you should buy it
here...
Schering-Plough (SGP*)...
Here's why... This reminds
me of Bausch & Lomb, where you
thought that the whole fungus was
going to take away their largest
product... It reminds me of
Bristol-Myers
(BMY),
when Plavix was supposed to
destroy their largest product and
BMY was going to have to cancel
its dividend... Look, if
this stock weren't down - and
remember, SGP* is now down 50% -
when you combine Oregonom, which
is a company that they bought,
with their normal business, then
you no longer have 70% of their
profits being Vytorin... It's less
than that, but you've now cut the
stock in half. You're
presuming that Vytorin is never
going to get another
prescription... you're presuming
that the thing's going to be
pulled... That's not the
case. That's not going to be
the case. That said,
Vioxx... that stock went to $25-26
and we looked back and we said, oh
my, what an opportunity...
BMY went to $20 on Plavix and goes
to $32... oh my, what an
opportunity... BAL went to
$43, and then gets a $65 bid
within a few months?... What
I'm saying is the headline risk in
drugs is always far worse...
[Fred Hassan, CEO]... He
just bought $20 million worth of
stock at $20. I write about
this is
my book,
that this is what happens with
drug stocks... Everyone
panics at the same time... they
get knocked all the way down...
We thought
Merck (MRK)
was going to file for
bankruptcy... This is just
unvelievable to me... this thing
has just been overly discounted...
Could it (SGP*) go to $16?... I
would just buy more... The
stock is down 50%... I would
say that Vytorin's earnings for
SGP* are 50%... You're
acting as if Oregonom was never
bought and there's nothing else in
SGP*... and you're also acting as
if Fred Hassan's dishonest... and
I just don't think he is...
Yes, I just
issued an alert saying that I
would buy it right here. I
would buy
Merck (MRK)
too... MRK's got a good yield.
This is a classic headline
over-reaction... This was
not anything special...
. . . .
.
On
Fannie Mae (FNM)
and Freddie Mac (FRE)...
JJC: I just
think that they're not
investable... I didn't like
them on this news yesterday...
Anything that makes them stick
their necks out more than they
have is not a great thing for
them... I think this is better for
Thornburg Mortgage (TMA)...
not for FNM and FRE... I
just think this is great for
Thornburg... I like the
Thornburg Mortgage Preferred
F (TMA-PF)...
I just think that FNM is going to
be overwhelmed... they're going to
be overwhelmed in this short
period... and I think that,
whenever you're overwhelmed, you
could make mistakes...
You have TMA-PF and you have
Toll Brothers (TOL)...
they are the winners. Now
TOL's up 35% in a couple of days,
so maybe let that come down...
but I can't put numbers on FNM and
FRE, and I'm worried about current
losses...
. . . .
.

at the very least, not sell
the stock. We do our

Back up the truck -
indicated by Jim, when he
says the stock is so good,
that he would do a
'mon-back' on the stock...
In other words, this is the
sound someone would say to a
truck driver, "Come on
back... " as he is "backing
up the truck" to load up on
his cargo. Translation
for buying stocks:
This recommendation by Jim
indicates that, after you do
your own
homework on the stock,
you should feel comfortable
loading up on it, as it is
in a good position to be
bought at this point. |
|
 |
Stumped. - Of the
2,000+ stocks that Jim
Cramer has in his head, for
which he has an informed
opinion, he sometimes comes
across a caller with a stock
he does not know well enough
to opine on... He then
indicates he is stumped and
will have to come back to
it, after he does some
homework of his own on
the stock. This
usually occurs during the
Lightning Round, when Jim
does not know in advance who
is calling, or what their
stock question is about. |

Definitions of key phrases
used by Jim, known as
"Cramerisms": |
|
 |
Definition: 'Pull the
trigger' is Jim's phrase for making
the decision at that point to trade -
either to 'buy' or
to 'sell' (although he
usually uses the phrase for
buying), as if to say you
should feel comfortable
enough to make the final
decision without looking
back... |
|
 |
Definition: 'Ring
the Register' is Jim's phrase for
selling a stock, and making
it a final sale, that you
should not look back on.
Put it behind you. |
|
 |
Definition: 'Let It Come In' indicates how you
may wait for it to pull back, or have the
stock price come down briefly, as your
chance (after letting it come in) to buy
the rest of your position (i.e., total
number of shares you own in that stock). |
|
 |
Definition: 'backing it up'
or 'doing a 'mon-back' is Jim's
phrase for the metaphor of backing up a
truck to load up on a stock by buying
it. 'Mon-back is short for the
imaginary worker saying, 'Come on
back...' as the truck is backing up to
receive its load... Notice that we use
the little truck icon to indicate where
Jim has mentioned this.
Translation for buying
stocks: This
recommendation by Jim
indicates that, after you do
your own
homework on the stock,
you should feel comfortable
loading up on it, as it is
in a good position to be
bought at this point. |
