On trading gold and two gold stocks...

JJC:    Gold... gold is back. I listen to those guys who say the dollar is correlated with oil... and oil is correlated with supply and demand. I'm sorry. That's incorrect. They can be coincident, but one involves oil, because of supply and demand. Gold has been excess supply for a while. It looks like the supply is working off... More importantly, the stocks are signaling that gold is going higher. They've often signaled it ahead of time... Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) and then, last night, Yamana Gold Inc. (AUY*) - a stock that I own for my trust that has just beaten up mercilessly from $19 to $12 - reported just a dynamite number... I like both of these very much. They're not done going up... AEM... that's an amazing company. The company was on our show, and this is one... everyone always wants to do Newmont Mining Corp. (NEM) or Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX), okay... If you want big, big... it's AEM. And, if you want growth, it's AUY...

.  .  .  .  .

On how Cramer has now turned sour on retail...
JJC:    Retail was a great trade, into the $600 bucks (federal tax rebate period), and into the April comparison number. We're finished. I want to sell retail. I want to sell Nordstrom Inc. (JWN)... that stock isn't even down yet, off of what's a disappointing quarter... I really feel strongly that the run, and I like that guys at Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. (PVH)... but that's run from $34 to $44... I feel that... that seems over. Take profits in VF Corp. (VFC). Notice the reversal in Aeropostale Inc. (ARO)... The only one I want to hold onto here is Wal-Mart (WMT)... Secondarily, I like Costco (COST)... TJX (TJX) wasn't even that good, to be honest. Urban Outfitters (URBN) raised numbers and the stock didn't go up... WMT is the keeper in this group right now, and I really think that all the broadline guys... the J. C. Penney (JCP)... And look, Kohl's (KSS)... KSS actually said good things and the stock went down. This group has had it, okay... Just go. This is the same reason... why you're paying $4 a the pump... is why I'm telling you to go in this group. You're spending all you're additional money - because of ethanol - at the supermarket; and because of gasoline, at the pump... I don't like Target (TGT) here at all... I know there's an underswell that TGT can't go down from here. I think it could go to $50 at (options) expiration this week...

.  .  .  .  .

On Discovery Holding Co. (DISCA*)...
JJC:    Yeah, DISCA just put on the great numbers that I've been looking for. It's a very convoluted ownership structure. That's being unwound in the third quarter. This is a masterfully-run company with big, big ad gains... big subscription gains... and this is also a green play... remember, they're starting a green channel. I urge people to recognize that, a year from now, this company is going to look quite different, if it's still public, given the fact that the Weather Channel is supposed to go out (i.e., the upcoming IPO value) at $5 billion... It's going to go back to where it was at its high (i.e., its 52-week high is currently $29.81, vs. its current price of around $26)... This stock is so hard to understand, because even the press releases are hard, because of the convoluted ownership... but that's going to get straightened out in Q3... People should get behind this one...

Thumbs up - indicates he would buy the stock or, at the very least, not sell the stock.  We do our best to interpret Jim's opinion on stocks, as we think it is indicated by his comments during the show.  Please read his comments to decide for yourself.

Thumbs down - indicates he has said not to buy or to sell the stock, based on his comments  We do our best to interpret Jim's opinion on stocks, as we think it is indicated by his comments during the show.  Please read his comments to decide for yourself.

Back up the truck - indicated by Jim, when he says the stock is so good, that he would do a 'mon-back' on the stock... In other words, this is the sound someone would say to a truck driver, "Come on back... " as he is "backing up the truck" to load up on his cargo.  Translation for buying stocks:  This recommendation by Jim indicates that, after you do your own homework on the stock, you should feel comfortable loading up on it, as it is in a good position to be bought at this point.

Stumped. - Of the 2,000+ stocks that Jim Cramer has in his head, for which he has an informed opinion, he sometimes comes across a caller with a stock he does not know well enough to opine on...  He then indicates he is stumped and will have to come back to it, after he does some homework of his own on the stock.  This usually occurs during the Lightning Round, when Jim does not know in advance who is calling, or what their stock question is about.

Definitions of key phrases used by Jim, known as "Cramerisms":

Definition:   'Pull the trigger' is Jim's phrase for making the decision at that point to trade - either to 'buy' or to 'sell' (although he usually uses the phrase for buying), as if to say you should feel comfortable enough to make the final decision without looking back...

Definition:   'Ring the Register' is Jim's phrase for selling a stock, and making it a final sale, that you should not look back on.  Put it behind you.

Definition:  'Let It Come In' indicates how you may wait for it to pull back, or have the stock price come down briefly, as your chance (after letting it come in) to buy the rest of your position (i.e., total number of shares you own in that stock).

Definition:  'backing it up' or 'doing a 'mon-back' is Jim's phrase for the metaphor of backing up a truck to load up on a stock by buying it.  'Mon-back is short for the imaginary worker saying, 'Come on back...' as the truck is backing up to receive its load... Notice that we use the little truck icon to indicate where Jim has mentioned this.  Translation for buying stocks:  This recommendation by Jim indicates that, after you do your own homework on the stock, you should feel comfortable loading up on it, as it is in a good position to be bought at this point.
