Celgene Corporation (CELG*)

Q:     At my age, 22, my dad recommended that I should invest in companies like Celgene, or a strong cyclical company like US Steel that has huge appreciation potential. I wanted to see what you say about that?

Jim:   First of all, I totally agree with your dad… you are younger.. you have 30 or 40 years of investing in front of you… I would prefer you to be in Celgene than in United States Steel Corp. (X)… USX has gotten too cheap… well US Steel that is the letter X… Celgene, that is our friend Bob Hugin (CEO), who we were with at the University of Virginia, I am proud to call him a neighbor… Celgene reported a monster good quarter… had a very big drug approved on Friday… again on the big list for Europe… the stock has been stalled here, I have been buying it all the way down for ActionAlertsPlus.com, my charitable trust… I say you have got a good one… buy that one and put it away.

Jim:   No, too much risk… I don’t need that… I would rather have growth from the credit card business so I go to Mastercard (MA)… I don’t think that dividend is enough to be able to sway me to own Discover… I say bearish… I say sell.

Jim:   No, I think that it is too aggressive to be able to do that… I think that Schlumberger (SLB) told us that everyone wants to jump the gun and say listen it is the last bad quarter… it was the first bad quarter… I know that RIG’s chart looks good… looks like it is forming a base to be able to crib from the technicians … I don’t think the earnings are there… I want to sell it… I will give you a two fer… I want to sell National Oilwell Varco (NOV), even though I know it reports.

Jim:   Another disappointing tech stock… I want nothing to do with… it is the first ones they go to every time you hear there is a tech rally… I say absolutely not… I don’t want you anywhere near that one.

Q:     I want to know about Atlas Energy?...

Jim:   Well, you know what… that yield is suspect to me… I am very worried that they cannot make it… I am going to have to defer to a company that has half the yield… I am going to defer to Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (KMP), Kinder Morgan… why… because I don’t want to risk people to be able to find some company if oil goes down… where they end up having to cut the dividend.
