In this segment, Jim
takes 2-3 callers
and asks them to
submit five stocks
that make up their
largest positions in
their portfolio.
He then comments on
whether or not they
are properly
diversified.
Jim:
When it comes to the
economy, everyone
seems to have kind
of the same
question… where can
I find a safe place
to park my cash…
unfortunately if you
are in the stock
market there is no
answer to that
question that is
easy… which is why
every Wednesday I
come here to remind
you about the
virtues of
diversification… it
is no magic pill… it
is not a cure all…
it is not going to
make you rich in an
awful market… what
it will do is help
you lose less… which
is why tonight I
present a very
special, protecting
your profits,
extended version of
Am I Diversified?

Caller:
The following
stocks...
United States Steel Corp.
(X),
Research
In Motion (RIMM),
Bank of America (BAC),
Wyeth (WYE),
and
Verizon
(VZ)?
Jim:
RIMM, Research In
Motion red hot… we
know that everyone
likes their
products.. the
shorts are all over
it… Wyeth, well wait
a second, they just
got a bid from
Pfizer, more on that
in a second…
Verizon, hanging the
$30 line, I love
that 6% yield… it is
trying to break out… The Journal
writes a negative
story about Verizon
every single day, so
I like the stock…
and US Steel, you
know what, when it
is mid $20’s we like
it…
What have we got
here?… We have a
steel company, we
got a phone company,
we have got a bank,
we have a drug
company, and we have
a tech company… all
good… except for the
fact that we are not
arbitragers…
we told you to sell
Roman-Haus in the
$70’s… we are
telling you to take
the profits right
now… Wyeth.
Verdict:
YES,
Diversified.

Caller:
I have
Aqua America Inc. (WTR),
General Electric (GE),
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ*),
Pepsi (PEP*),
and
General Dynamics (GD).
Am I diversified?
Jim:
Well, let’s take a
hard look at this
one… okay, Pepsi I
own it for
my charitable trust,
ActionAlertsPlus.com,
I bought some the
other day at $49, I
think it is going to
have a okay quarter…
obviously the street
is betting against
it… and betting
against Indra Nooyi
(CEO)… General
Dynamics, well you
know we got that
problem with the G3,
G4, G5... it is not
my favorite in the
defense department,
I happen to like
Northrup, I thought
they had a good
quarter… J&J,
another
charitable trust
name, now here is
the problem with J&J
people felt the
quarter wasn’t that
good, they are
worried about the
weak dollar, I am
not because I am
buying this company
at an equivalent of
a 20 year bargain,
it has never been
this cheap in 20
years… General
Electric, parent
company of this
network, diversified
player, they are
committed to the
dividend, obviously
goes down quite a
bit, it is a little
problematic…and Aqua
America, hey I can’t
believe it the stock
is back over $20, it
has got a good
yield, it looks like
they have got their
act together, it had
lost us a lot of
money as I mentioned
in one of my books…
So we have got a
water company, well
this is a utility,
we got a soda
company, we have a
defense company, we
got a drug company,
we got a diversified
conglomerate… that
is absolutely what
we are looking for.
Verdict:
YES,
Diversified.
Jim:
Oh man, that
was a really
short Am I
Diversified...
