CVR Energy, Inc. (CVI)
Q: On
Monday, Goldman Sachs and yourself
upgraded a few of the refiners to a buy,
due to fallen and now, for the time
being at least, stable oil prices. And
the drastically improved refiners crack
spread in profit margins. Now I already
own a refiner for yield, but one of my
spec stocks or as you like to say in
your books, your one for fun, is a small
refiner called CVR Energy?
Jim: Alright, if you
hadn’t said the speculative thing I
would have had to reverse field and say
why are you doing that when you could
buy
Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO)
which has a good yield… I like that as a
spec play on the idea that refining
margins will continue to widen… remember
how does refining work… they usually buy
mining crude… I don’t know if this one
does… but they usually buy mining crude
which is cheaper than the international
price… and they refine it and they sell
it at the pump…. and if there is a big
spread between the gasoline and the oil…
they make the money… .yours makes the
money… I like it.

Avon Products Inc. (AVP)
Q: What
do you think about Avon?
Jim: Avon’s quarter
wasn’t nearly as bad as everyone
expected… but you know what… that isn’t
enough any more… this stock has been a
total and utter dog… and I have got to
tell you something… I don’t think it as
what it takes… I am not going to
recommend Avon… they did a great
restructuring… it really helped for a
while…and then it seems to have run its
course.

NAT |
29.22 |
Nordic American Tanker (NAT)
Q: I own
Nordic American Tanker, I owned it at
$35, and they are coming out with their
earnings and dividend announcements on
Friday. And I am concerned about what
the numbers are going to look like.
Jim: Alright, I actually
have faith in Herb Jordan… I wasn’t
happy that they snuck in that secondary
after they bought the last ships… but I
believe in Herb Jordan… he has got the
best balance sheet… he is the CEO of
Natty Dred… I think it is fine at $29...
I do not want to go out on a limb…
because oil prices have come down… and
there is a story in Bloomberg.com today
which said that oil tanker rates are
going to come down… but if you have to
own a tanker… it is going to be NAT…
every time I expand a little further and
I recommend something… I get my neck cut
off… and my head… so NAT is my play.

Prudential (PRU)
Q: The
stock I am looking for is Prudential
Financial?...
Jim: The conference call
was a disappointment, frankly… I was
disappointed… I did not get what I
wanted… I felt that they had taken on
more risk than I like… I am only going
to recommend in that group… remember I
am really cutting back…
Travelers (TRV)…
why I am recommending Travelers… this is
all about managers in this group… and
Travelers has without a doubt the single
best management in the insurance
business… it has got a guy named Jay
Fishman… he is very conservative… he did
not blow his head off like some of these
other guys… that is the only insurer
worth owning… is the Travelers
Corporation… by the way, it is property
cash… it has great investments… how
about that.

Limited Brands Inc. (LTD)
Q: I want
to know these retail stocks, man they
are happening. How about this LTD?
Jim: I see nothing
there… I also don’t see any customers
there when I go by… does anyone ever see
a customer in a Limited Store…. holy
cow, even the chart is bad… it looks
like a lemon on the North Face pal… I
think that Limited is going to do
nothing… I am only recommending one
retailer and that is
Wal-Mart (WMT*)…
and Wal-Mart is going down… can you
imagine what is going on with the rest
of the retail if Wal-Mart is getting
hit… I say… don’t buy… don’t buy.

Popular Inc. (BPOP)
Q: I was
just wondering about Popular Inc.?
Jim: I used to own the
stock during the heyday of the credit
card business but that was in the ’90’s…
I don’t want to touch this stock… I am
recommending almost no banking stocks…
with the exception of
Goldman Sachs (GS*)
and
Morgan Stanley (MS*),
both of which can pay off the TARP… and
by the way, both of which I think are
having great quarters… those are it that
I am going to push aggressively right
now… I cannot get behind the banking
group because of all the problems in the
sector… but Goldman Sachs and Morgan
Stanley which I own for
ActionAlertsPlus.com, my
charitable trust… and
I am beating the market.

IFF |
29.39 |
International Flavors &
Fragrances (IFF)
Q: I am
dying to know about International
Flavors?
Jim: IFF just okay… very
weak dollar… very strong dollar
situation… don’t really want to own it…
it is kind of boring… it didn’t have a
bad quarter… I am not going to get
behind IFF… I just don’t see enough to
recommend it… if it had a higher
dividend… if it had faster growth I
would like it… otherwise, I don’t mean
to disappoint… but IFF… I am taking a
pass.
