'Am
I
Diversified?' |

In this segment, Jim
takes 2-4 callers
and asks them to
submit five stocks
that make up their
largest positions in
their portfolio.
He then comments on
whether or not they
are properly
diversified...
See callers'
portfolios below...
Jim:
So,
the Dow Jones Average,
down 184
points
today... We
can handle
it. Why?
Because we
always
remain
diversified,
no matter
how rosy
things are
looking, or
bad... We
know it can
change on a
dime...
We remind
you of this
every
Wednesday...
You know, we
talked about
Cheerio-amid,
and General
Mills,
right?... I
mean that's
about being
diversified...
so that part
of your
portfolio
does okay on
a bad day
like
today...
That's why
we play, "Am
I
Diversified?"...
This is
where you
call me and
tell me your
top five
holdings,
and I tell
you if your
portfolio is
diversified
enough, or
if you need
to mix it up
a little.
Remember,
this is not
qualitative...
This is
literally
sector
analysis...
That's what
this is
called...
sector
analysis...
Let's go to
Becky in
California,
to start "Am
I
Diversified?"...

Stocks are:
Bank of America (BAC),
General Electric (GE),
Wal-Mart (WMT*),
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ),
and
Research
In Motion (RIMM)...
Jim:
Oh... Becky is
playing in a smokin'
fashion... Alright,
here we go... BAC,
largest bank... you
know, we're waiting
for the big equity
offering before we
decide if we want to
go there... WMT, the
largest retailer. I
own it for
ActionAlertsPlus.com, my
charitable trust...
and it reports
tomorrow. Everyone's
really worried about
it. May I please
take a step back and
say it's a pretty
darn good company,
and you shouldn't be
petrified. GE, work
for it, own it for
my charitable trust...
a big, diversified
company...industrial...
JNJ... premier
pharma company, up
today... and RIMM,
tech...
Retail, tech,
diversified
industrial,
financial,
pharmaceutical/consumer
product... That
tells me that Becky
in California is a
seasoned diversified
player! Congratulate
her.
Verdict:
YES,
Caller's portfolio
is diversified.

Stocks are:
Chevron Corp. (CVX*),
IBM (IBM),
Nordic American Tanker (NAT),
McDonald's
(MCD*),
and
People's United Financial
Inc. (PBCT)...
Jim:
Alright, let's go
over what Ian has,
because I think he's
got an interesting
mix here...
MCD, which is a very
nice, defensive
company on the
dollar getting
weaker, we want to
be in MCD... We
obviously know this
as the great
restauranteur...
PBCT is one of our
survivor banks, with
a fantastic balance
sheet. It will win
as other banks
lose... IBM
reiterated its
guidance under a lot
of option pressure
to go to $100, but
it's a terrific
technology stock...
CVX, which I own for
ActionAlertsPlus.com, my
charitable trust,
with a nice yield.
It is also better
than it used to
be... NAT, I did not
like the fact that
they did another
secondary... I have
commented about this
all day on
RealMoney.com
and last night, and
I think that,
everytime that stock
gets to $35, I am,
from now on, going
to tell you to sell,
sell, sell...
because they just
keep doing a deal...
We've got a
high-yielding
tanker, we've got a
tech, we've got an
oil, we've got a
restaurant and a
bank... Oh man!
People are onto my
game!... It's like
I'm playing with
marked cards...
they've got 'em.
They know the
combinations...
Verdict:
YES,
Caller's portfolio
is diversified.

and Skyworks Solutions Inc. (SWKS)
Jim:
Alright, can I just
say that Stuart's
portfolio is an
inventive,
interesting
diversified
portfolio. I'm going
to say that up
front. Let me go
over this...
SWKS, we had the
excellent David
Aldrich on just last
week. That's a
technology company.
They make the
innards of almost
every cellphone
company in the
world... COH is the
absolutely
excellent... but I
think - like TIF,
under tremendous
pressure today -
handbag company...
Why? Because we have
many articles about
how rich people are
going to pay more
taxes. Like it or
not, that is going
to hurt that
stock... JOYG is the
machine company that
takes out the call.
Again, doing very
well... GE is an
industrial that is a
conglomerate. And
WL... it's where I
used to keep gold,
when I had people
buy gold from me
when I was at
Goldman Sachs...
We have got an ideal
bank, we have a
diversified
industrial, we've
got a technology...
we have got... let's
call it, handbag
accessory company...
and we've got a
machinery company.
Holy cow, three for
three... all great
players... Every one
of these portfolios
I'd be willing to
own.
Verdict:
YES,
Caller's portfolio
is diversified.
