'Am
I
Diversified?' |

In this segment, Jim
takes 2-4 callers
and asks them to
submit five stocks
that make up their
largest positions in
their portfolio.
He then comments on
whether or not they
are properly
diversified...
See callers'
portfolios below...
Jim:
So,
the Dow Jones Average,
down 184
points
today... We
can handle
it. Why?
Because we
always
remain
diversified,
no matter
how rosy
things are
looking, or
bad... We
know it can
change on a
dime...
We remind
you of this
every
Wednesday...
You know, we
talked about
Cheerio-amid,
and General
Mills,
right?... I
mean that's
about being
diversified...
so that part
of your
portfolio
does okay on
a bad day
like
today...
That's why
we play, "Am
I
Diversified?"...
This is
where you
call me and
tell me your
top five
holdings,
and I tell
you if your
portfolio is
diversified
enough, or
if you need
to mix it up
a little.
Remember,
this is not
qualitative...
This is
literally
sector
analysis...
That's what
this is
called...
sector
analysis...
Let's go to
Becky in
California,
to start "Am
I
Diversified?"...

Stocks are:
BP plc (BP*),
Freeport-McMoRan (FCX*),
Linn Energy, LLC (LINE),
Wells Fargo (WFC),
and
Genco Shipping & Trading Ltd.
(GNK)...
Jim:
Alright, here we
go... This is
difficult... this is
difficult,
because... Did you
hear what John
said?... I have LINN
as a dividend
play... so what he's
saying is... I think
he's trying to take
BP and recognizes
that LINN is
energy... and is
trying to say,
listen... it's okay,
because I have a
dividend play... and
I'm not letting that
happen... not here,
not now... no way.
That violates the
Nevada gaming
commission... and
the Cramerica gaming
commission.
BP does have a great
yield... I own it
for
ActionAlertsPlus.com, my
charitable trust...
LINN, we know that
yield, we like it...
but I'm saying
still... that's not
diversified. And
FCX... this stock is
on fire. Why?
Because copper's on
fire... Genco
shipping... Okay,
we've got a shipping
company, a copper
company, we have a
large bank... I also
own that one for
AAP... So, what do
we have? We've got a
bank, we've got a
shipper, we've got a
mineral company, and
we've got two oils -
that's a pair! We're
not standing for
that!
Sell one of the
oils... and I think
you can do either
one, because BP has
a good yield too.
Verdict:
NO,
Caller's portfolio
is NOT diversified.

General Maritime Corp. (GMR),
NorthStar Realty
Finance Corp. (NRF),
Veolia Environnement SA (VE),
and
Biovail Corporation (BVF)...
Jim:
This portfolio is
higher risk than I'd
prefer... I just
want to say that
from the get-go...
We have here a
utility company...
that's what Veolia
is, okay... we have
a military play...
we've got a drug
company... although
a drug company that
I think is far too
risky for me...
General Maritime...
we're certainly into
the shippers today,
right?... We've got
a big shipper
contingent... and we
have a
high-yielding, but I
think not-safe, real
estate investment
trust...
This is "Am I
Diversified?"...
it's more
quantitative than
qualitative... I'm
really looking at
stocks and sectors,
but... so a real
estate company - a
real estate
investment trust, a
shipper, a military,
a utility - a water
company and a drug
company...
It fits the bill,
but too speculative
for this guy...
Verdict:
YES,
Caller's portfolio
is diversified.

Stocks are:

Walt Disney Co. (DIS),
Wells Fargo (WFC),
Deere & Co. (DE*),
and
Exxon Mobil (XOM)...
Jim:
Alright... first may
I point out that,
yesterday, I said
that the Wall Street
Journal wrote an
article that was
negative about farms
and farmers... and
what happened? Deere
reported a number
and the stock was up
$2, so you clearly
would have missed
that if you had
watched the Wall
Street Journal... At
the same time,
Monsanto (MON)
having one of the
bigger moves ever...
So I just wanted to
point that out as an
"editorial" against
the editorial people
at the Wall Street
Journal...
Exxon is an oil
company... the
world's largest...
Wells Fargo - we
dealt with that
earlier - it's a
bank. I own it for
ActionAlertsPlus.com, my
charitable trust.
JNJ is the classic
weak-dollar drug
company, alright...
in consumer drugs...
John Deere... the
best farm equipment
company in the
world... and Disney,
the excellent,
well-run Bob Igor
company that
everybody's short
because they're
idiots!
So we have
entertainment, farm,
pharma, ag and
oil... perfect!
Yes!...
Verdict:
YES,
Caller's portfolio
is diversified.

Jim:
Right now, I'm
trying to think...
do we have two
utilities?... Let's
take a look... let's
see what we've got
here...
Let's take the easy
ones first... We
have Altria...
that's the old
Philip Morris...
that company is
smokin'... ha, ha...
it's got a good
yield. Cellcom is an
Israeli utility...
let's call it a
utility... BP, we
already covered
that... that's an
ActionAlertsPlus.com
name... as is J.P.
Morgan, which is
classically
undervalued here,
being pulled down by
all the different
secondaries...
National Grid...
Alright... whistle
here... I think we
have two
utilities... Some
would say, wait
Jim... one's a
telco, one's a
utility... So I will
be sparing... Let's
give it to him... a
telco, an oil
company, a utility,
a bank, and a
tobacco company...
I'm willing to
say...

YES,
Caller's portfolio
is diversified.
