  Closing Segment - #5:
Am I Diversified?
  Wednesday, July 15, 2009

[Beginning of Cramer's verbatim comments for this segment...]

In this segment, Jim takes 2-4 callers and asks them to submit five stocks that make up their largest positions in their portfolio.  He then comments on whether or not they are properly diversified...  See callers' portfolios below...

Jim:     When I tell you to own a stock, it doesn't mean that I want you to put all your eggs in one basket. That would be stupid, right? Uh uh... I won't have any of that on this show, because diversification is the only free lunch... That's why we're playing, "Am I Diversified?"...

You call me, you give me your top five holdings, and I tell you whether your portfolio has enough protection from each other... whether you have enough sectors... whether you need to mix things up...

Let's start with Bradley in Texas... Bradley...

                                                (see caller's portfolios - and Jim's critiques - below)

Caller:
I want to know if I am diversified... Stocks are:
Yahoo! (YHOO), Wal-Mart (WMT*), American Oriental Bioengineering (AOB), Citigroup (C), ORCL?...

Jim:     Let's take a look here... It's not easy. You'll see why in a second. Okay, this is a biotech company (i.e., AOB) out of China... I really don't like that company, but it's a biotech company out of China... We have Citi... Wal-mart... Everyone tells me that Wal-Mart's quarter is not that good. I look at it and I say, come on... the stock's a buck in front of its 52-week low... just go buy some. And then this... okay, here's the problem... Yahoo and Oracle... Do I say they're two tech stocks and forget about it, or do I say one's an online play, and one is a software play?... In this market, these are trading together, so I am going to have to buzz this portfolio and say that you should... literally... I think that Yahoo is having a great quarter... I think you should keep Yahoo, okay... and take the profits in Oracle... okay, which I'm sure you do because the stock's up a lot...

Verdict:   NO, Caller's portfolio IS NOT diversified.

Caller:
I want to know if I am diversified... Stocks are:
JPMorgan (JPM*), Celgene Corporation (CELG), ConocoPhillips (COP), QualComm Inc. (QCOM*), and Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMY*)?...

Jim:     Alright, let's look at these. This is very important... See, he did the caveat... he likes dividends... that's all right... but he doesn't really have that much dividend in here...

J.P. Morgan reports tomorrow... You know I think the world of Jamie Dimond... I don't know what he thinks of me, nor do I care... but I do think that he is great and I think his bank is great, okay... and I own it for
ActionAlertsPlus.com, my charitable trust... and you know what? I'm on the side of him versus the government. He worked really hard. He's being lumped in with a lot of bad banks. Conoco Philips... yes, I lightened up on this. Why? They have too much natural gas exposure. I decided to go into Chevron Corp. (CVX*), which I regard better, but this is an oil play... Qualcomm... I own it huge... my biggest position for ActionAlertsPlus.com... Why? Why does my charitable trust like QualComm? Because it's the ultimate mobile internet play. Bristol Myers... I own that one too, because of the yield... just like him. And Celgene... I shouldn't have kicked out Celgene, but I had too much biotech and too much drug... and that we know absolutely is doing... it's a great, great biotech company. We were worried about European reimbursements.

So we have tech, bank, oil... and then we have... do we regard biotech as drug? They are not trading together. I'm going to bless that as diversified.

Verdict:   YES, Caller's portfolio IS diversified.

Nokia (NOK), OncoGenex Pharmaceuticals (OGXI), Comfort Systems USA Inc. (FIX), Wells Fargo (WFC*), and Del Monte Foods Co. (DLM)?...

Jim:     Wow, this is a really interesting... I've got to tell you something... this is a really... I've got to tell you... I am an absolute lunatic, and I get turned on by portfolios. I am turned on by what Pete has put together... because this is just a portfolio that doesn't come to mind... I just kind of like it.

You've got an interesting biotech name. I really like that. Del Monte... My friend, Dave Pelletier, who writes the "Stocks Under $10" newsletter at
TheStreet.com, where I'm chairman, thinks that Del Monte is good, okay... I'm not going to go against him... Nokia, I happen to think is going to have a very strong 2nd half... Comfort Systems was a company that I recommended, unfortunately, much higher. HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) company... Wells is a bank that I like. I always want to welcome anyone from Wells who wants to come on this show, including their East Field Realty people. I think it's a great thing.

A bank, HVAC, tech, food, biotech... perfect diversification! And a kind of neat portfolio, if I do say so myself...

Verdict:   YES, Caller's portfolio IS diversified.
