Continental Resources Inc. (CLR)

This is a remarkable decline!  This company has so much oil and gas in the Dakotas, and it has literally gone from...  this thing went from $80 to $20...  but I know that there's lots of properties for sale, courtesy of our friend, Aubrey McClennan (CEO of Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK).  We know that things like Anadarko (APC)...  I mean, I've got to tell you... APC was at $80, and it's at $29 (now).  All of the high-quality ones, like APC, XTO Energy Inc. (XTO) and Ultra Petroleum (UPL) are down so much, but I can't go against CLR here...  I think you scale down and buy it.  Let me just see, on a long-term chart (as he checks his computer), how low we can go on this thing... because I don't want to recommend something if it can still go much lower...  Okay, the level that it's got to hold is... This thing has been as low as $20.  Right now, it is at $20.  This is where to pull the trigger.  This is the long-term picture... I mean, I'm not a chartist.  I'm struggling like everybody else to try to figure out where things bottom.  I think that CLR could be bottoming here.

Look, I've got to tell you...  This was a company that, at one point, was going to be bought... and it made a lot of sense to me... systems integration.  It passed up the chance.  And now I want nothing to do with it.  Sell, sell, sell!  I think it can go lower.  There are really no fundamentals aboard for the stock, as much as I like the company.

NLY

11.80

Annaly Capital Management (NLY)

I think that that's a business model that needs to borrow a lot of money in order to be able to invest at different in the yield curve.  I did like it for a long time, and then I did a total self-immolation on it, recommending it from $15 to $20, and then having it go right back to $15 in my face.  It was bad.  I felt like I knew nothing... I felt like I was (Federal Reserve chairman, Ben) Bernanke.  But I'm not going back there again.  I say, definitively, do not buy NLY.  Don't buy, don't buy...

SLB

54.40

Schlumberger (SLB)

Schlumberger, down 12 points...  It's like the company doesn't exist, and these are great American companies.  But there are many forced sellers.

EBAY

15.33

eBay Inc. (EBAY)

EBAY, down at $14, sold to you...

NOC

Alright, this has got the worst combination of a government that seems to be running out of money, because it's too busy giving it to Citigroup... and a guy who's coming in for President that people don't trust to do well for the military, Obama.  I don't know if Obama's going to win or lose, but I do know that you can't own the defense stocks right now.  And, if I had to own one, I've got to tell you... this Lockheed Martin (LMT), down $8, with a good dividend, is probably the better play.  And, remember, you can't touch Boeing (BA), or anything to do with BA, until that strike is settled.  Mr. President, please invoke Taft-Hartley.  Taft-Hartley is a law about labor... Maybe you Google it, or do a Wikipedia thing...

No, no...  We need that utility to yield more.  We've got high-yielding utilities.  I've got Duke Energy (DUK), at 6%.  And DUK is good money.  DUK is the way to go.  Pull the trigger on that one.

MMM

3M Co. (MMM)

Alright, now here's a company...  Now, you've got to understand...  I follow millions of stocks...  I actually follow about 2000 stocks...  but, in the last half hour today, it was so bad, that a whole (group of) stocks changed what I thought... MMM went out (i.e., its closing stock price at 4pm) at $54.  It yields 3.6%.  The moment this stock starts yielding 5%, I'm going to recommend it.  And, at the velocity... the velocity... of its decline, we're going to get there.  So keep your powder dry.

Dividend yield target to buy:   5.0% or higher.  Watch the dividend yield percentage, where Jim will recommend it.

NS

37.33

NuStar Energy L.P. (NS)

Alright, that one actually has some exposure... they actually operate crude oil and refined-product pipelines.  I'm not sure I want to have anything to do with crude.  I like the natural gas transmission ones.  So let's make the move back to... you know, the one you want to be in is Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (KMP)...  I can't emphasize that enough.  KMP is my go-to name.  Secondarily, Enterprise Products Partners LP (EPD).  I think both of those are buys.

WYE

Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (WYE)

Holy cow, they have just killed that...  You know, I've got to tell you...  It's down 10% today, but it still only yields 3% and change.  We are not going to recommend a drug company in that area - big pharma - unless it yields about 5%.  That's the only way to do it.
