SVU

13.26

SUPERVALU Inc. (SVU)

Jim:   Oh no, no... man.  For a supermarket, if we're going to recommend a supermarket, we're going to recommend Kroger Co. (KR), which is preserving its margins and doing a better job than SVU... which actually cut off its neck with a big acquisition.  Of course, now if they were to call in, they'd say, Jim, we didn't do that, it's all great...  because I have yet to find a company that doesn't say that everything's great.  And, whenever I say anything critical about anything, I'm obviously wrong, because I'm saying things aren't that great.  But, you know what?...   I like being wrong like that.

WDC

14.70

Western Digital (WDC)

Jim:   You know, I've been working on a group of companies that fit the depiction of down and out tech, okay...  WDC which, at one time I owned 4% of in my old heyday, is selling at... oh man... it's selling at 5x earnings...  Can you get hurt in a stock selling at 5x earnings?  Well, what I've learned with the oil services is that, if they sell at 5x earnings, they can sell at 4x earnings.  So let's use a $12 number.  At $12, we'll get excited.

Price target to buy WDC:   $12.00

MO*

19.22

Altria (MO*)

Jim:   Alright, finally...  here's a stock that I just bought more of for my charitable trust.  Why?  Because Treasuries (i.e., T-bills) don't give you much of a yield...  people still smoke, Marlboro's doing well...  and this has a bountiful dividend!  And bountiful dividends are to be applauded!   This is the first stock that I have said on this Lightning Round, that I would buy right here.  I have not pressed this button... "Buy, buy, buy!"... until now.  And, I'll do this one too... "All aboard!" to accentuate the positive...

CNX

25.60

CONSOL Energy Inc. (CNX)

Jim:   You're talking about a coal company.  Under an Obama regime, I don't think you want to be selling coal.  But this stock is so knocked down, it is just...  I mean, I was looking at Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) the other day...  I said that BTU would come back down...  that's almost given up everything it's just gained...  If you think McCain's going to win, I think you want to buy these.  If you think he's not, then I think you've got to wait, because I think that will happen is that people will say, "Holy cow!  Obama won.  Sell coal!"...  and that will be your opportunity who, believe it or not, would actually do that.

LNC

20.99

Lincoln National Corp. (LNC)

Jim:   LNC needs the government to come in.  We know this because the stock's come down.  They cut the dividend...   The government's talking about guaranteeing annuities.  Now, for all I know, LNC doesn't need that guarantee but, if you want to see that stock jump, as we saw with MetLife (MET), as we saw with Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. (HIG), you want government guarantees of annuities.  That's something I've been calling for...  it looks like the government's making some horse sense about it.  So, what I'll do is I'll get off the cheap linoleum floor and tell you, get those guarantees, if you want to buy LNC.  Otherwise, you do not want to buy it.

PMCS

3.82

PMC-Sierra Inc. (PMCS)

Jim:   Holy!...  Did you see where this stock is!  Oh my...  This is one of those things where we've got to do a "do you see where this stock is?" show...   I was on a private plane just last year... with Bob Bailey, who is the CEO of PMCS...   PMCS is too low, and I would actually be...  in the first week in December... I would be a buyer of that stock.  Why?  Because that's when tax-loss selling accelerates to its conclusion, and I do not believe that Bailey cannot make...  I have to believe that he can make you money at $3 bucks.  He's too good an executive.
